Wow. What a journey. Although I am coming to the conclusion of the Navigating Your Finances God's Way small group study; I am really only at the beginning of this new journey with God and our money. OUR meaning ... HIS and mine!! That was the first lesson I learned when I started the Navigating study over 12 weeks ago, everything is His and it is on loan to me. I am steward of my income, property and assets - God is the rightful owner. Since, I am unable to take any of it with me into eternity, that should have been clear from the start. It is now, which worked out well since the study ends with this not-so-gentle reminder that we are not made for this life but for one that lasts much longer. To that end - the Scripture to Memorize in this last week sure is a cause to pause:
"What profit is there for one
My reflection for the conclusion of this incredible study will come from Day Five (Eternity) - when we are asked to read2 Corinthians 4:18. This verse is one I am very familiar with and often paraphrase in my presentations as "be eternity minded". Since it is the one certain thing of life, it makes sense for that to be a focal point for our daily decisions and even future goals. Next, Jon and Evelyn Bean have us consider this VERY thought-provoking question. "As you reflect on eternity, answer these questions thoughtfully: What three things do I want to accomplish during the rest of my life?" Honestly, just reading those words sent a shiver through my spine and anxiety welled within me. At 46 years old, it feels those days are quite as numbered as they once could have been. My body is not as cooperative; my brain definitely not as sharp, and well, it is not like either will get better as more time passes.
We can not worry about the past nor the future - God has those in His hands. WE are merely called to seek His will for this moment. Regret doesn't solve problems nor does worry. In this process, I have acknowledged some really poor choices and huge financial mistakes. Those type of decisions that could leave me LAYING WIDE AWAKE at night wrought with guilt and overcome by anxiety. Which is where Jon and Evelyn found me when they visited A Seeking Heart with Allison Gingras back in January! So what would they discover if we chatted now?
Navigating Your Finances God's Way - is an incredible small group study to help right your financial disasters; or even better, teach you how NOT to loose your way!! I am so grateful toJon and Evelyn Bean for sharing this study with me; and for their continued support and prayers!
THIS seemed the PERFECT song - given this week's scripture to memorize - with which to end this series!
