Honored and SURPRISED when my Catholicmom.com piece on FIVE HOPE-FILLED prayers to help those who worry (like me) was selected to be shared on the Family Rosary blog. The Ripple Effect of Kindness
As a six-year-old boy in Kenya, Charles Mully, finds himself abandoned by his family. For ten years he lived as a beggar until two significant events. First, someone invited him to encounter Jesus. Second, a stranger showed him kindness and gave him a chance at life.
MULLY is the true story of Charles Mully, a self made millionaire haunted by the faces of the street boys. The person he was and thought he had escaped. Once surrendering to God's call, a miraculous albeit difficult journey began. MULLY sets out to make a real difference in the lives of orphaned children across Kenya. Jeopardizing his own life and the security of his family, Charles Mully offers more than an investment of money in the Kenyan Orphans. In an even more remarkable gesture, MULLY invests himself.
Mully's Story Made Me Think
We adopted our daughter in 2009. She is Profoundly Deaf. Abandoned at 10 months old in a hospital parking lot in China. For three years Faith lived in a Foster Home, clearly loved, but never taught any means of communication. Children age out of foster care at fourteen years old in China. Faith would have left the orphanage with no way to communicate nor an education. I truly shutter to think what would have become of her if we'd not answered God's call to adopt.
The inspiration to adopt came while at a concert. As the singer shared his story of adopting three little girls, my husband and I realized we needed to explore adoption. Our desire to adopt came directly from God, until that concert in 2007, the idea had never crossed our minds. Although, I live with paralyzing anxiety, an empty bank account, and occasional parenting insecurities; we answered God's call. Not a day passes that one of us does not look at this sweet, beautiful, and funny little girl and say, "I cannot imagine our lives without her."
