My hubby Kevin decided to play soccer this week with the church so we did not have our small group - so I think I'll take this opportunity to reflect on the last 10 weeks. Our time with Navigating Your Finances God's Way by Compass Catholic (Jon and Evelyn Bean) has been enlightening and rewarding but not without struggle, sacrifice and some really big bumps along the way.
My biggest issue. I want everything to be a PIECE OF CAKE - or a yummy gluten-free cupcake as my case may be. When I first opened the Navigating Your Finances God's Way small group study back on February 21st, my subconscious expectation was to have all my financial woes FIXED by time I reached Lesson 10! Well, we are only on Lesson 8, and I can attest that many of our fiscal problems still exist.
We still live paycheck to paycheck, we still occasionally need a boost from our lone credit card to make our ends meet, I still do not have a steady stream of income, and our cars are still both on their last leg.
I paint such a pretty picture every week don't I! Well, that comes from some years in marketing and others in human resources - you always give the negative 'strokes' before launching into the positive. That way the other leaves knowing the problems that need addressing but the final message they are left with is uplifting and encouraging. So that is the big picture - we were neck deep in financial do-do; and now we are maybe chest deep. This gives us breathing room but we clearly still have a LOT of work to do !!
IT will not be the quick fix, lottery winning miracle that I not so secretly longed for but in this process the LORD wants me to change - it is so far LESS about my finances than about helping me to be virtuous steward and disciple He created me to be. He is GOD and if He wanted my bank account filled and my problems solved HE WOULD solve them because they remain is a clue to me that my loving Father is up to far more.
The Need for Self-Discipline Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize?
These are the Lessons that We Will NEED to Continually Revisit and persevere with - this is NOT a one and done process ...
