Lent Begins Wednesday, March 1st

WINE Lenten Book Club

Lent is legit my favorite season of the Church. I know that sounds strange since Lent is a time of sacrifice and penance. It is not typically associated with the joy and excitement of season of celebration such as Advent. Yet, I find myself anticipating it with an eager heart and making plans as if I were going on a great adventure. As a typically undisciplined person, perhaps it is the ‘misery loves company’ adage mindset of Lent that allows me to embrace this opportunity to shed obstacles and strongholds that keep me from being a better me and from being closer to Christ.  Maybe I am just nuts.  Either way — Let the LENTEN games begin!

Virtual Community

While I am blessed to be hosting a Walk in Her Sandals bible study/book club at my home during Lent; I am also incredibly blessed to have been asked to steer the Women in the New Evangelization (WINE) online Lenten Book Club.  We have been brainstorming for months how to make this experience special and spiritually enriching for all.

Here is the plan:

  • Sunday Reflections to coincide with the reading for the week; and hopefully (since they are coming from me) enhance your Lenten journey.
  • Daily Quote Graphics posted on the Facebook WINE: Lenten Book Club group (ask to join we’d love to have you); opening up daily discussion around the Walk In Her Sandals reading for that week.
  • An Instagram Photo Challenge (see graphic below) – if you’ve been around these parts for a bit you are familiar with Snap Advent Photo Challenge(inspired by the awesome Catholic Sistas Lenten Photo Challenge).  Each day there is a word (hashtag actually) associated with the Daily Quote Graphic and the Walk in Her Sandals reading.  Use your imagination to find or take a picture that illustrates how the word has inspired you – then share on Instagram using the hashtags: #LentenWalk #LentwithWINE
  • Contests and Giveaways … more on that during LENT; be sure to LIKE WINE: Women In the New Evangelization on Facebook to not miss a moment!

“Truly this man was the Son of God!”
~ Mark 15:39b

Ah, Palm Sunday. My sons used to refer to it as “the Mass that requires us to stand forever and ever (amen).” It is the Mass that turns most healthy, able-bodied children (and even some adults) into spaghetti-legged blob-o-kids.

There was a time when even my body balked when I heard the priest announce, “This morning, we’ll be following the LONG form of the Gospel.”
